The Way

The directionally challenged student of the Tao was visibly enthralled. “I have bought a brand new GPS. I will never be lost again,” she said.

The Tao gave a piercing glance in the direction of the student. “Do you know where you are going to?” he asked.

The student was taken aback. “Yes, O Tao, I am seeking happiness in this life, and the GPS claims it will show me the way. I saw their commercial on YouTube,” she said.

The Tao snatched the GPS from the student, threw it on the ground, and stamped on it. The hapless student watched while the innards of the machine flew in all directions.

“Only through losing yourself you can find the way to inner happiness,” the Tao was succinct in his wisdom.

The student stood there, shocked.

“Now roll along. Lose yourself. If you come back here someday, know that you will have reached your destination,” said the Tao. 

The student was enlightened. She picked up the pieces of the GPS, and put them in the recycle bin. 

She was on her way.
